Canada to Begin Soft Enforcement of Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Mandates in June

Canada Flag

Penske Truck Leasing customers operating fleets in Canada, or crossing into Canada from the United States, need to be aware that the country will begin a soft enforcement of its electronic logging device (ELD) mandate on June 12. Motor carriers are expected to have ELDs installed and switch from paper daily logs.

Transport Canada defines an ELD as a certified device or technology that automatically logs the driver's driving time and record of duty status.

ELD devices in Canada will require compliance with the Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators' (CCMTA) Technical Standard for ELDs and must be certified by an accredited third party. Click here to learn more.

Starting on June 12, there is a planned soft mandate enforcement. This enforcement period is expected to ramp up gradually. It will begin with education and awareness with the mandate to be fully enforced starting on June 12, 2022.

Penske customers in need of assistance with identifying and implementing an ELD solution into their fleets can call 844-426-4555 or email the company at success@penskeconnectedfleet.com.
